Univ. Prof. Gabriele LechnerGabriele Lechner was born on the 8th of march, 1961 in Vienna and completed her musical and vocal studies at the Viennese “Musikhochschule” and in Italy.She was awarded diplomas “magna cum laude” in vocal training, lied & oratory and opera.The lyric dramatic soprano has also won prizes at several vocal competitions, including “Mario del Monaco”- competition (Italy), the “Opera en Belcanto” competition ( Belgium) and the “Dr. Luis Sigall”- competition (Chili).She has received invitations to sing main roles in operas and concerts in almost every European country, Chili and North Corea and has participated in major international festivals such as the “Salzburg Easter and Summer Festival”, the “Wiener Festwochen”, the “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino”, the “Prague Spring Festival”, the “Carinthischer Sommer” a.s.o.Her international career began in 1986 with the role of Amelia in Verdis “Un Ballo in Maschera” at the Viennese State Opera with Luciano Pavarotti and Piero Cappuccilli, conducted by Claudio Abbado.The enormously successful performance was also broadcast live on European television.After five years with the Viennese State Opera, in Germany, at the Opera house of Graz, she became a member of the ensemble of the Zurich Opera in 1991, where she has sung most of the major lyric and dramatic roles of Verdi, Puccini, Strauss and Wagner.Her extensive repertory also includes leading roles in the operas of Gluck, Mozart, Weber, Meyerbeer, Boito, Giordano, Offenbach, Schreker, Goldmark… and modern composers like Henze and Reimann.In addition, she has a vast concert repertory and appears often in solo- recitals.She has worked with over “120 conductors”, the list includes Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniel Barenboim, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Nello Santi, Michel Plasson, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, Vladimir Fedossejev, Horst Stein, Gianandrea Gavvazzeni, Fabio Luisi, Myung Whun Chung, Uwe Mund, Leopold Hager, Ralf Weikert, Hans Vonk, Heinrich Hollreiser, Walter Weller, Janos Kulka, Adam Fischer, Michael Schönwandt, Hartmut Haenchen, Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser- Möst…Many radio and television broadcasts ( f.e. “Ballo in Maschera” with Pavarotti, “Tosca” with Neil Shicoff ) have resulted from these artistic collaborations.On the stage she has also worked with many international well-known producers including Robert Wilson, Tony Palmer, Harry Kupfer, Ruth Berghaus, Axel Corti, Hans Hollmann,Cesare Lievi, Giancarlo del Monaco, Gianfranco de Bosio, Dr. Jonathan Miller, Nikolaus Lehnhoff and Frank Corsaro.She is present university professor in vocal training and interpretation at the university of music and performing art in Vienna and also executive head of the Institute of singing and music theatre.Gabriele Lechner is working as a judge in international singing competitions and gives often masterclasses for young singers in Europe ( f.e. is she masterclass teacher of AIMS - American institute of musical studies and ISA- international summer academy of the universities Vienna- Prague and Budapest).
